Q & A
Who are your main influences?
My parents; who taught me to be persistent and to never give up, treat others with respect no matter who they are, be open-minded, always seek to do one’s very best, see the world, laugh often, and to learn from failure.
What is your greatest accomplishment?
I was part of the leadership team that drove, prepared and won a $579M Indefinite Quantity/Indefinite Delivery (ID/IQ) contract with the U.S. Army for the Husky Land Mine/Improvised Explosive Detection (IED) Detection System (HMDS) during the height of the war in Afghanistan. The contract win was tremendous but more importantly, the 300+ vehicular mounted Ground Penetrating Radar systems that we delivered to the U.S. Army, USMC and our allies to clear roads of IEDs and other explosive hazards, saved thousands of soldiers and civilians lives over the course of many years. The testimonials that we received from soldiers in the field who’d detected these threats validated our hard work.
What motivates you?
Seeing the benefits and achievements that result from a strong work ethic, striving for perfection, keeping an open mind, always learning, being “hands on” and staying agile & flexible. I am also motivated both by the challenge of finishing multiple projects on time and to cost and by managing the teams to achieve those goals.
Why did you choose your profession?
I chose this profession because I saw an opportunity to leverage my many leadership, management and people skills attained in the military and transfer them to industry. There is no better place than the military to build these skillsets and the contributions that you can make to your industry team are immense. In addition, the teamwork and brotherhood fostered by the military is something I value highly and always work to develop with my industry team.
What are you working on right now?
I’ve established an LLC that provides strategy and business development services to domestic and international clients focused on U.S. Federal, Department of Defense, and Commercial opportunities. I am collaborating with both small European companies with the Defense Alliance of North Carolina (DANC) to identify and introduce technologies developed by small North Carolina Technology businesses to the U.S. Department of Defense.
